Dusting a guest room is a crucial step in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring guest satisfaction. This process involves removing dust and lint from all surfaces using a systematic approach that avoids overlooking any areas. The primary goal is to provide a clean and dust-free environment while preserving the arrangement of the guest’s belongings in occupied rooms.

1.     Preparation:

  • Use a damp cloth for effective dust collection.
  • Keep a separate lint-free cloth for glass surfaces.

2.     Technique:

  • Follow a clockwise pattern starting at the entrance.
  • Perform high dusting first, followed by low dusting, to prevent re-contamination.

3.     Special Considerations:

  • In occupied rooms, return guest items to their original places.
  • Tidy the room without disturbing the guest’s setup.

4.     Inspection:

  • Ensure no lint or dust remains before leaving the room.
  • Report any engineering issues noticed during the process.

5.     Timeframe:

  • The entire dusting process should take approximately 4–5 minutes per room, depending on its size.
By following this overview and adhering to the SOP, housekeeping staff can ensure that each guest room meets high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
